The Town of Richmond Hill
Richmond Hill is a city in itself located a 30 minute drive north of downtown Toronto, just north of Thornhill. Early in the twentieth century, several large greenhouse operations were built in Richmond Hill, and rose growing turned the town into the "rose capital" of Canada.
Richmond Hill is part of the "Greater Toronto Area," being located about halfway between Toronto and Lake Simcoe. It is the third most populous municipality in York Region and in recent years has seen a huge population upsurge, and continues to be one of Canada's fastest growing municipalities. The town's population was over 160,000 in 2006 and is projected to exceed 200,000 by the year 2015.
Despite this extensive growth, Richmond Hill has remained a community with a friendly, down-to-earth flavour and the town's un-official motto is "A little north, a little nicer." Read a brochure about Richmond Hill here.
